I am with Eric on this one, rules are rules and should be strictly followed.
Challenges are competitions - there are winners and no winners - and as such a set of rules must guide and be abided by all participants equally. A late submission is just fine but should not be accounted for the prizes.
To clarify, I wasnāt disagreeing around deadlines etc for the consideration of winners, and Iām sure the EDNA apply these fairly. Perhaps I didnāt make my point clear, it was more around looking at early submissions giving later entrants (within the closing date) an advantage. Perhaps it does slightly but if it inspires someone to improve on their work and/or learn something new then Iām good with that.
Iāll jump in here for @haroonali1000, who I know is on another call at the moment. @FPastor , @ericet et al. - Yes, this is always the way it has and will continue to work - to be eligible for the prizes you need to submit within the specified deadline.
That being said, I think @Greg 's post summed it up beautifully. While fairness dictates that we adhere strictly to the rules for the purposes of the competition, I also believe that the competitive aspect is the least important and least interesting part of these challenges. Thus, I also would encourage anyone and everyone to submit when it suits you - even months after the deadline, we will still review your report, provide feedback, post it to the Challenge Showcase, etc.
In addition to your technical knowledge, the enthusiasm and encouragement you bring to this Community adds greatly to the friendly and supportive vibe that makes this forum my favorite place on the internet.
There was are certainly no intent on my part or anyone elseās to portray you or @ericet as ābad guysā in any way at all. In fact, I thought we were all in agreement that yes, for the purposes of competition the rules need to be (and always have been) strictly adhered to.
That being said, some folks weight the competitive aspect more or less heavily, and thatās absolutely fine. If the competition aspect is a big motivator for you, thatās great. I would say anything that gets people motivated to participate is a big plus, and that motivation is going to be different for different people. Iām generally a very competitive guy by nature, but with regard to these challenges I find other aspects more personally relevant and motivating. But by voicing that opinion, my intent was not at all to criticize those who felt otherwise and I apologize if it came off that way.
We truly and highly value yours, Ericās and everyone elseās participation in these challenges. We know itās a significant time investment and sincerely appreciate everyone who takes the time to engage in this community in this way.
Whether people submit after the deadline or before the deadline, the main goal for me is just to learn from all the submissions in the challenges. The winner should be and is always selected based on all the PBI related factors along with the submission within deadline.
This is the best part about this community that everybody can share anything in here. I participated in the first ever challenge last year in August and I just wanted to participate in only one challenge but got addicted because of the motivation given by the expert team and all the other members. Since then, I have liked this community more than anything honestly and have made great friends within this community.
Having said that, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one amazing friend I made here @DavieJoe
Here is my submission for eDNA Challenge #16. It was so fun, and I learned a lot by making this report. I learned a lot about R graphs, āggplotā and ātidyverseā libraries, and also learned how to use charticulator to make nice charts using both web and custom visual versions. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline, and I couldnāt spend much time designing it as I wanted, but I could make new graphs using charticulator and R.
Did you remove your submission ? Seems you deleted your messages here ?
I was looking at your report, which I liked very much and wanted to give you a suggestionā¦
On page 3 Client Insight, I wanted to suggest that when you select a customer. To update all the top numbers to show only the numbers of that customer. So, when you select a client, it highlights only this clients data.
I liked your report, but did not see here it here anymore ?
As an earlier submitter, I like the challenges because I am a hands on learner. The challenges give me an opportunity to try things that may not be applicable in my professional work. I also like to submit early to provide an opportunity to self-critique by viewing other submissions as fuel for future work.
Either way, Power BI is an amazing tool! I have so much still to learn but I am happy to report that I passed the MS DA-100 exam earlier this week! I am certified in Power BI
As always, a unique and fascinating entry both visually and analytically. Impressed that you were able t match the styles of the R and Charticulator visuals so well. Canāt wait to start digging into the PBIX file to figure out how you did some of this.
Terrific report, and great stretch learning goals.
