Analyze in Excel for Power BI Desktop

Forum Members,

The new External Tools menu introduced in last month’s PBI update is already starting to pay huge dividends. SQLBI just released their Analyze In Excel add-in that lets you directly connect your Power BI model to Excel, which is incredibly useful for debugging and validating complex calculations.

I’m sure they will be releasing more documentation and videos on this soon, but here’s the link to download the add-in and an introductory video:

Enjoy.

Wanted to pass on a tip I figured out yesterday - if you use MalwareBytes to protect your computer from malware, ransomware, spyware, etc., you will need to add AnalyzeInExcel.exe to the Allow list. Otherwise, MalwareBytes will quarantine that file the first time you try to connect Power BI to Excel, and every subsequent attempt to call the program from the External Tools menu will fail.

Once you whitelist it, the software runs perfectly and is a great addition to Power BI.
