(Topo or Geo) Json code for Christchurch Shape Map

Hello

I have tried my best to locate a GEOJSON code for Christchurch, New Zealand (one that can be used by the Shape Map visual in Power BI Desktop), without any success.
There have been a few related treads in the Forum, but none clear enough for Christchurch.

Does anyone have the Json code, please? If not, could you please suggest the steps I should take to create one?

Kind regards

Doru

Hi @dimbroane,

Have you checked out this video tutorial from Greg Philips?

Here’s the YouTube Link

You may proceed to 02:28 JSON Basics

Hope this helps. Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your suggestion.

The video describes themes and how Json code contributes to that.

Unfortunately, I need a GeoJson map for Christchurch that I can use in my Shape Map.

Thank you for your suggestion, though.

Hi, @dimbroane, If you can find an appropriate map in Shapefile (.shp) format, you can use the mapshaper.org website to easily convert it to geojson.

I hope this helps.

Hello @dimbroane ,

Did the responses from @ektx help solve your query?

If not, can you let us know where you’re stuck and what additional assistance you need?

If it did, please mark his answer as the SOLUTION.

Thank you

Hello

No, @ektx answer did not solve the problem, but offered the solution for the second step I need to take.
I believe, the first step is to identify the proper dataset (from https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/), then use mapshaper.org to convert iit to GeoJson (if it has not already been converted) for the purpose of using it with Shape Map in Power BI.

I will try to find this dataset when I have a bit of time and advise as such.

Kind regards

Hi @dimbroane,

I hope you are doing well. I was wondering if it would be possible for us to close this thread temporarily while you are trying out the solutions provided above. Once you have made progress and require additional support, feel free to open a new thread and reach out to us again.

Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to assisting you further in the future.

@dimbroane Another potential source might be https://opendata.canterburymaps.govt.nz/. Like https://catalogue.data.govt.nz, many of the feature layers are downloadable in geojson format.
