PBI Desktop on Windows 2012 R2 Server - Refresh hangs

I have moved a completely working PBI Desktop application from a local PC to a Windows 2012 R2 Server because it ensures that Gateways are “always open” for scheduled refresh when I load to PBI Service.

Everything works absolutely fine until it comes to data refresh.

I start the refresh, it goes through the evaluation phase and starts to load data, except it does not. It just hangs and does not refresh the data. See image.

There is also another issue that is a bit odd but may be related. When I try to access the PBI service from PBI Desktop on the 2012 R2 server it also hangs and I cannot get to the PBI Service.

We managed to resolve this.

It turns out it was a browser issue. When we installed Microsoft Edge it all worked.

Probably something to do with later TLS.
