Live Connection and sorting by column

Hello,
I am migrating several reports from import mode to live connection to a PBI dataset.

In import mode, I am using “Sort by column” on several fields to set up custom sorting (non-alpha, non-
numeric sorting). Obviously, this approach does not work when in import mode.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to replicate the “sort by column” function with a live connection to PBI dataset?

I know I can add the sort order field to the visual and sort on that field, but I’d rather not do that.

I could also add the sortorder as a prefix to the field on the visual like 1FirstCategory, 2SecondCategory which is slightly better than the first option, but would also rather avoid that unless it is the only option.

So the solution is to do all of the “Sort by column” sorting in the dataset, then that sort order will be kept in reports using that dataset. Seems obvious looking back, but I will leave this post up in case it is helpful to anyone else.
