Hello internet. We have been managing all our data and analytics needs using Infor Birst but we have decided to migrate to Power BI.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no content on the net available regarding this as Birst is such a niche product. Can someone who might have done the same please explain how they have approached the process? And any reading material or resources regarding the migration will be appreciated!
Hello! I never used Birst, but I can provide you with a general guideline on how to approach the process.
- Assess the current setup: Analyze the data sources, reports, and dashboards you have in Infor Birst. Make a list of all the components that need to be migrated and any customizations that need to be considered.
- Data sources and connections: Identify the data sources that you are using in Birst, and then set up equivalent connections in Power BI. You may need to use Power Query to connect to some data sources or modify the data model if required.
- Data modeling: Review the data models and measures you have created in Birst. Power BI uses a different data modeling language called Data Analysis Expressions (DAX), so you will need to recreate these measures in DAX.
- Reports and dashboards: Redesign and recreate your reports and dashboards in Power BI using Power BI Desktop. Some visualizations may not have a direct equivalent in Power BI, so you may need to find alternative visuals or use custom visuals from the Power BI marketplace.
- Data refresh and scheduling: Set up data refresh schedules in the Power BI service to ensure that your reports and dashboards stay up to date with the latest data.
- User management and security: Configure user access and row-level security in Power BI to ensure that your data remains secure and accessible only to authorized users.
- Training and support: Provide training and support to your team members to help them transition from Birst to Power BI. This includes familiarizing them with Power BI’s interface, features, and functionalities.
