Data Type Issue loading in Power Query

Dear All,

A very painful problem - I am having data type error which is impacting my report, I am loading data from excel a column which is number and texts so I am loading it as it is and changing data type to “text” in power query.

The problem is for numbers in excel say 1603.054

  • in power query number is showing as 1603.054000000000001, i fail to understand why and because of this my lookups are not working as there is wrong import - can you help please.

without seeing your Excel file, my guess is that the original value, Excel is showing only 3 values after the decimal, but your number actually has all those additional values.

It might be better to separate teh numbers from the text if you can.

Hi @AbhinavKumar, we aim to consistently improve the topics being posted on the forum.

I noticed you didn’t provide a PBIX file. Providing one will help users and experts find a solution to your inquiry faster and better.

A perfect initial question includes all of the following:

  1. A clear explanation of the problem you are experiencing

  2. A mockup of the results you want to achieve

  3. Your current work-in-progress PBIX file

  4. Your underlying data file (to allow us to go into Power Query if necessary to transform your data and/or data model – often DAX questions really end up being data modeling solutions)

Check out this thread on Tools and Techniques for Providing PBIX Files with Your Forum Questions

Not completing your data may sometimes cause delay in getting an answer.

Hi @AbhinavKumar, we’ve noticed that no response has been received from you since the 22nd of June.

We are waiting for the masked demo pbix file, images of the entire scenario you are dealing with, screenshot of the data model, details of how you want to visualize a result, and any other supporting links and details.

In case there won’t be any activity on it in the next few days, we’ll be tagging this post as Solved.
