Can Power BI reports link to other PBI reports?

I know I can use buttons to other pages within the same report, as well as link to Paginated Reports. We’re developing hundreds of PBI and Paginated reports over the next year, but there’s no existing menuing system in our ERP system to accommodate the volume. They have “Widgets”, not unlike the Windows 10 Start-Menu Widgets. 10 or 20 make sense but hundreds would be a mess. Stacking them (clicking one to open a folder of many) isn’t possible.

My question is twofold, both involving links to other published reports:

  1. Can I create a PBI menu that does nothing more than link to other PBI reports published on the PBI Service? Would their PBI security tenants for row level security be honored?

  2. When I use the Paginated Report visual, is it tied to my PBI report’s dataset or can it have it’s own (a big reason we’re using Paginated Reports is because PBI Live Connect to SSAS models limit us to a single model, but our reporting needs often combine data from many models).

Thanks for any help you can offer. Apologies for not providing report samples; it’s all hypothetical. My questions are more general in nature.

Hi @Bradley

Please find responses below

  1. Yes. you can create one and the RLS will be honored
  2. Paginated reports can have their own embedded datasets. For more details, refer https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/paginated-reports/paginated-reports-report-builder-power-bi#:~:text=Paginated%20reports%20are%20designed%20to,their%20report%20page%20layout%20exactly.

Hi @Bradley

  1. Yes you can. All you have to do is to also implement the RLS on the PBI reports the menu is linking to.

  2. The paginated report has its own dataset, however, you might need to do some parameter mappings. You can check a detailed explanation here: Create and use the paginated report visual - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

I hope this serves a solution to your question.
