Best hardware for BI Development

I am having more and more problems developing BI projects on my Macbook Pro. I have 16g ram with a 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor. Using Parallels with 8g memory and 6 processors allocated to Windows. Daily run into memory and or CPU maxed out.

I don’t want to give up my Retina display, but definitely need more horsepower. Should I change to dedicated Windows machine?

@Irv,

I would. I’m running a hex core i9 with 32 gigs of RAM and have never maxed out either the memory or the CPU even on my largest models.

Hi @Irv. Until recently, I was using an off-the-shelf Windows 10 i5 with 8 GB of RAM and, although lagging occasionally, very rarely ran into CPU or memory locks. I’d do it.

I have had similar issues. Installing boot camp is an option, and for me, has increased performance.
