Backup of Power BI Reports

Hi,

I want to backup by Power BI reports every week and store them in a SharePoint folder with time stamp as the folder name.

Can someone suggest me how can I automate this backup process with out any manual intervention.

Thanks,
Manendra.

Hi! Would you please expand on and clarify your needs:

  • Where are your reports currently stored? Are they in Power BI service or Power BI desktop?
  • Is this SharePoint on-prem or SharePoint Online?
  • Do you have access to Power Automate or PowerShell?
  • Do you want to back up the entire report file or just the data?

If there are any other details you can provide, please do so.

Hi @ystroman

Thanks for looking into my request. Here are the answers for your questions

Q1: Where are your reports currently stored? Are they in Power BI service or Power BI desktop?
Ans: Reports are published into Power BI services in a Prod workspace.

Q2: Is this SharePoint on-prem or SharePoint Online?
Ans: Every week all reports in the Power BI workspace to be auto backup with a time stamp as the folder name in SharePoint online.

Q3: Do you have access to Power Automate or PowerShell?
Ans: I have access to Power Automate.

Q4: Do you want to back up the entire report file or just the data?
Ans: I want to backup the entire report as all my reports are built using import mode.

There are always homegrown solutions; however, they may not
offer the best return on investment. They may also not blend well
into the larger goal of protecting information and data, where it
is always the responsibility of the customer rather than Microsoft.

One such suggestion would be to consider a SaaS Data Protection
Provider such as Keepit for the protection of reports, dashboards,
workspaces, and datasets. The cost per month for a single user
starts at $ 2.95 USD per seat/per month. A free 30-day trial is
available.

A second such suggestion would be Power BI Sentinal. The cost is not by the seat but rather
by the volume of reports which starts at £250 / $300 per month. on a rolling monthly basis. They do not offer a free trial period but do offer a no-quibble 14-day cancellation and refund policy, so you can try it out without risk.

There is value in familiarity with the PowerBI Power Shell commandlets.
