Weekly practice exercise posted every Monday.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
Deneb is far more than a custom visual – it is really an entire visual development environment based on the Vega/Vega Lite languages that allow you to create almost any visualization that you can conceive of within Power BI. In addition to its flexibility, Deneb has the following benefits:
It’s free within AppSource, and certified by Microsoft
It’s fully interactive within the context of a report
It’s fast relative to other bespoke visualization techniques, such as ggplot2 within R
It requires no additional runtime libraries to be installed (unlike Python and R visuals)
It’s fully compatible with Publish to Web (unlike Python and R visuals)
It’s continually being updated with new features and functionality
It’s fun to use
WORKOUT LEADER
Greg Philps is a senior BI consultant to the Canadian government, a long-time Enterprise DNA expert, a multi-time eDNA Challenge winner, an internationally recognized expert in the use of Deneb, and the author of multiple eDNA courses including the only current full-length course available on the Deneb visual.
SCHEDULE
Deneb workouts will be posted weekly – Greg will post a new workout every Monday before midnight UTC, which will include the dataset and a screenshot of what the final visual is to look like. At the end of the active period of that workout, Greg will post his solution to the workout thread in the eDNA forum.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR SOLUTION
When you have completed the workout, just post a copy of your JSON code and a screenshot of your final visual in the forum thread for that workout.
