WHY PARTICIPATE?
DAX is one of the two foundational analytical languages within Power BI (the other being the Mashup, or M, language within Power Query). While M is geared primarily to data cleaning and transformation, DAX is the only way to perform calculations that are dynamic within the context of a reporting session. This workout will provide twice-weekly practical problems that you can use to elevate your DAX skills and reinforce your learnings from structured DAX content.
WORKOUT LEADERS
Paul Gerber is an Environmental Solutions Advisor for Cimarron Energy, Inc., and Senior Business Intelligence Developer (seasonal) for Stellify BI, as well as an Enterprise DNA expert and multiple-time eDNA Challenge Winner. His focus is analysis and visualization within Power BI.
Tim Weinzapfel is the Director of the Automation and Analytics Center of Excellence for Research Triangle Institute, an Enterprise DNA Expert and previous eDNA Challenge Winner. He has extensive experience in all components of the Power Platform, and is the author of the new eDNA course “Integrating Power BI with the Power Platform”.
SCHEDULE
DAX workouts will be posted twice weekly – Tim will post a new workout every Monday before midnight UTC that will run until that Thursday. Paul will post his weekly workout before midnight UTC on Thursdays that will run until the following Sunday. At the end of each active period, the leader will post their solution to the workout thread in the EDNA forum.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR SOLUTION?
When you have completed the workout, just post a copy of your DAX code in the forum thread for that workout. Please be sure to format your DAX when you post it to make it as readable as possible for others. To format your DAX, just highlight over the DAX code in the post and click on < />.
