Hi Sam/Team - I am trying to gain a better grasp on Virtual Tables as it’s been the most challenging to learn. I was reading through the above blog post which helps. However, I was curious (maybe I missed it), couldn’t you just use this measure?
When I put them side by side, they have the same values with the only difference being the total at the bottom. I’m having trouble understanding what exactly would be the benefit here of using “Overall Ranking Virtual Table” over the measure for “Overall Ranking” where it sums each individual measure? Even when I remove the individual Ranking measure columns on the table, the Overall Ranking values remain the same.
Hi @Jordan.Petty - One benefit I can easily see is you can create a single measure instead of creating “4” measure for calculating individual Rank and Overall Rank.
Also, there are multiple benefits of creating virtual tables when you are working with Advanced DAX calculations. If you scroll through few Forum posts it will be used extensively across them.
Per @ankit 's response, if you’re looking for other virtual table examples in the forum, @Melissa and I have adopted a convention where for virtual table variables within measures, we often name them “vTable”. If you search on this term, you will find a ton of virtual table-related solutions with PBIX files you can explore to better understand the techniques used.
