Error while refreshing

Web.Contents failed to get contents from ‘https://erprop.sharepoint.com/_api/web/getfilebyserverrelativeurl(‘/Shared%20Documents/Finance/Logic%20File.xlsx’)/$value’ (500)

I get this error very often while refreshing either online or manual, any idea why is this coming?

Hi @Anu,

Is there any errors when trying to refresh the excel file in the PBIX file too?

Hidayat

Yes, but without changing anything later it works also. But this often occurs.

Hi Anu,
Just to understand it better, how is the excel file connected to PBIX?

Are you using Get Data through Sharepoint Folder or Excel?

Hidayat

Sharepoint folder connection…

Hi Anu,
Error 500 is an internal server error, where it could be a result of many factors.

To simplify, are you able to first connect the file from the query editor?

Here is how I connect in SharePoint:

  1. In the query editor, go to > New Source > More > Sharepoint Folder > Type or Paste in to Sharepoint path.

  1. SelectTransform Data.

  2. In the query editor, replace sharepoint.files to sharepoint.contents.

  1. This will give a UI that is similar to navigating within any windows folders.
  2. Click on Table in Row 1, Column Content, Name: Shared Documents. Your file should be within this folder. Navigate to the file as you would in a normal folder.

  1. Once the file is selected, the data should appear and you can proceed to do further transformation before hitting Close & Apply.

Yes i am able to , but once in a while it gives the above error while refreshing, may be on second attempt it succeeds also, but this is happening quite often now.

Hi @Anu

As this error is Intermittent, it suggests it is primarily related to N/w Issue and not Power Query. Check with your IT team if they can help you on this. Also raise a Ticket with Microsoft Support team. They will help by looking at Fiddler Traces.

Thanks
