Data Modelling Workout 03 - Denormalizing and Fixing Dimensions

Hakeem: I can relate to that feeling of not having real-life mentoring at work. I only have a peer in my small group who is a data engineer but his contract will soon expire.

Thanks, Brian! My goal is to be known as the data modeling and DAX guy. I’ve heard many times that it is better to have a specific niche that you’re known for. That way people know where to go when they need help on that thing. I’m going to put in as much work as I can to get there.

@Hakeem ,

I think that’s smart. Power BI is such a big, complex and ever-growing beast that it’s impossible IMO to be expert in the whole thing. Thus, I think trying to keep up broadly, but building a specialty for which you’re known makes good sense.

And I don’t think you can reasonably specialize in DAX w/o a comparable data modeling specialization, since the two are so closely and inextricably tied.

Did transformations in power query like concatenate State-Code-Region, Merging as New, Splitting Columns, and more.
